The Council of the Tivat Center for Culture made a decision to introduce the award for the best director "Jagoš Marković" in addition to the existing awards at the Mediterranean Theater Festival "Purgatorija".

This award was introduced at the initiative of the director of the Center for Culture, Goran Božović, in honor of the prematurely deceased great director of Montenegrin and regional theater, Jagoš Marković. Among other things, he also directed several plays produced by the Tivat Culture Center, among which is the latest, "The Bald Bird", which premiered at last year's "Purgatorie" and has since won numerous awards in Montenegro and abroad.

"Jagoš Marković died suddenly last year, right after the closing of the 18th edition of the Mediterranean Theater Festival "Purgatorija". It turned out that there was a fateful connection between Jagoš and Tivat, bearing in mind that the last project he worked on in his life was in Tivat, the theater play "The Bald Singer", and that the last recognition in his life, the "Ivana Tomičić" award for a special contribution to the festival, got just on the last edition of "Purgatory", said Božović.

He pointed out that Marković left a deep mark on the work of the Tivat Culture Center and on the "Purgatorija" Festival.

"He directed three outstanding theater plays - "Filomena Marturano" which has been performed for over ten years, "Hasanaginica" which has been performed for over seven years, and finally "The Bald Singer", which has won eleven awards in its four festival participations so far, and numerous Guest appearances and festival participation are yet to come," said Goran Božović, director of the Tivat Center for Culture, on the occasion.

He added that he thinks this is the right moment to introduce the award for the best director, which will bear Marković's name.

"Purgatory" is a festival that he loved, to which he was happy to return and for which he gave a lot, and the introduction of this award is a completely appropriate act and a logical sequence of events. In this way, we give recognition to Jagoš Marković for everything he achieved in theater directing, for his extraordinary, ingenious contribution to theater art and culture in general, and in the most appropriate way we save his name from being forgotten," concluded Božović.
