The first trailer for Daisy Ridley's upcoming film Young Woman and the Sea is finally out. Based on Glen Stout's 2009 book of the same name, the film tells the story of swimmer Getrude Trudy Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926.
Ridley rose to fame with the lead role in the last trilogy of films from the "Star Wars" franchise. The trailer shows the obstacles Trudy faced after announcing her plan to swim the channel, most notably the sexism of critics who didn't believe a woman could achieve such a feat.
Along with Ridley, the film stars Sean Clifford, Kim Bodnia and Christopher Eccleston. The script is written by Jeff Nathanson, and directed by Joakim Renning.
"As the father of two girls, I wanted to make a film that would tell them, about a girl who changed the world," the director previously stated.
