Cars with classic engines are much more popular than electric ones

Frequent objections to e-cars are the relatively high price, environmental damage of batteries, limited shelf life, insufficiently developed network of charging stations and too short vehicle range.

If they had to buy a car now, two out of three drivers in Germany would choose one with a classic engine. Only one fifth would consider an e-car, according to a regular annual survey by Targobanka.

More precisely, 68 percent of survey participants preferred a car with an internal combustion engine. Last year, the share was higher - 72 percent.

At the same time, 31 percent of drivers now believe that internal combustion engines are outdated.

1.009 drivers participated in the online survey of the Forsa Institute.

Among them, 31 percent chose a gasoline engine, and 13 percent chose a diesel engine.

For 15 percent, a car with a hybrid drive is acceptable, and three percent would perhaps buy a fuel cell vehicle.

On the other hand, 17 percent want a fully electric car. The remaining 21 percent did not say anything.

The research also showed that 29 percent of car drivers with a classic engine plan to switch to an alternative drive. In 2023, there were 36 percent of them.

Frequent objections to e-cars are relatively high price, environmental damage of batteries, limited shelf life, insufficiently developed network of charging stations and too short vehicle range.
