The production of personal cars and vans in Stellantis' Italian factories fell by 9,8 percent on an annual basis in the first three months of this year, to 170,42 thousand vehicles, the FIM-CISL trade union announced.
"This moves Stellantis away from the goal of producing one million vehicles. The carmaker has discussed this with the Italian government," said FIM-CISL chief Ferdinando Uliano, presenting a quarterly report on Stellantis' production levels.
FIM-CISL predicts full-year production of 630 vehicles this year, which is a drop compared to last year when production was 751 vehicles, Biznis.ba reports.
The forecast is based on data from the first quarter and assuming that the car purchase incentives announced by the government do not reverse the current trend.
In January, Stellantis announced that from February 12 to March 3, approximately 2,25 thousand employees of the Mirafiori factory in Turin will be temporarily suspended due to weak demand.
At that time, the FIM-CISL trade union said that citizens were delaying the purchase of electric vehicles because they were waiting for state incentives.
