Founder and CEO of "Tesla" company Elon Musk arrived today for a visit to China, at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and met with its president Ren Hongbin to exchange opinions on further cooperation, Chinese state television CCTV reports.
It is not yet known whether Musk will visit the big auto show in Beijing, where his competition has recently shown new models of electric vehicles.
"Tesla" has a large production plant in Shanghai, for sale in China, but also for export to Europe and other regions.
The European Union has launched an investigation into Chinese subsidies to the electric vehicle (EV) industry that could lead to additional taxes and increased tariffs on electric vehicles made in China, potentially including Tesla cars.
Green energy subsidies have helped transform China's auto market, with EVs accounting for about a quarter of new car sales last year, reducing demand for gasoline-powered vehicles.
Foreign automakers such as Volkswagen and Nissan are scrambling to develop new electric vehicle models to maintain or regain market share in China, the world's largest auto market.
