Former high-ranking police official Zoran Lazović and former chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnić were arrested at dawn by order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (STP).
This was confirmed by "News" from several sources.
Lazović and Katnić were arrested by officers of the Special Police Department (SPO) on the order of the SDT, which suspects them of creating a criminal organization and abuse of official position.
Officers of the Special Police Department (SPO) as part of one of the largest cases in the Special State Prosecutor's Office are currently carrying out an action in several places in Montenegro.
"On the basis of mutual cooperation and several months of coordinated action of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department and the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Law Enforcement Authorities - EUROPOL, by order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department, with the assistance of the Special Purpose Police Department, deprived MK of his freedom , the former chief special prosecutor and ZL, the former assistant director of the Police Administration, due to grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal acts of creating a criminal organization and abuse of official position," stated state prosecutor and SDT spokesman Vukas Radonjić.
Katnić and Lazović, he added, will be brought to the special prosecutor for questioning within the legal term.
"The search of their apartments and other premises in Podgorica, Cetinje, Budva and Bijelo Polje is underway, in order to find traces of the criminal act and items that may be useful for the proceedings," announced Radonjić.
The Police Administration announced that Katnić and Lazović were arrested in to the subject "Alfa".
In the UP announcement, it is written that this case is the result of several months of work, international cooperation and coordination of the Special State Prosecutor's Office with several organizational units of the Police Administration, and especially the Special Police Department.
"Today's realization of the mentioned case is only a continuation of the activities started earlier in the fight against organized crime and corruption and represents the continuity of activities in the comprehensive reform process. The premises used by these persons are being searched at several locations in Montenegro. During today, they will be taken into custody to the special state prosecutor," the police statement reads.
