Bečić: The arrests of Lazović and Katnić prove that no one will ever be stronger than the state

The arrest and prosecution of former chief special prosecutor Milivoj Katnić and former high-ranking police official Zoran Lazović is proof that no one will ever be stronger than the state and that there are no protected and untouchables.

This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister and coordinator of the intelligence and security sector, Aleksa Bečić.

Lazović and Katnić were arrested this morning by officers of the Special Police Department (SPO) on the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), which suspects them of creating a criminal organization and abuse of official position.

"In the last few days, during my visit to the Special Police Department, then to Brussels, as well as in my last media appearances in the country, I claimed that there are no more untouchables in Montenegro and that thanks to the excellent cooperation of the security sector, SDT and EUROPOL, we are witnessing impressive daily results in the field of decisive the fight against organized crime and corruption. Today's arrest and prosecution of former GST Milivoj Katnić and former high-ranking police official Zoran Lazović is the best confirmation of the above, that is, proof that no one will ever be stronger than the state, that there are no protected and untouchables and that there is no an attempt that can disrupt the trust and quality cooperation of the security sector, SDT and EUROPOL," Bečić announced.

He said that he will travel with the Minister of the Interior on Monday to visit EUROPOL headquarters.

"Congratulations to all the brave members of the security sector and the special state prosecutor's office who worked with quality and dedication on the preparation, as well as today's implementation of the action and the mentioned case. I am proud as the coordinator of the intelligence and security sector authorities and the deputy prime minister for security of your commitment, courage and determination to clean this beautiful country of organized crime and corruption. We continue uncompromisingly, as a team and with determination, because the fight for a country with strong institutions and the rule of law is the greatest patriotic duty," said Bečić.
