Director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK), Jelena Perović, who was arrested yesterday by order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), was detained for up to 72 hours, her legal representative, lawyer Nikola Martinović, confirmed to "Vijesta".

Earlier today, she was detained at the SDT, where she was questioned on suspicion of abusing her official position for an extended period of time.

"The suspect presented her defense in the presence of the chosen defense attorney. After the hearing, she was ordered to be detained for 72 hours from the time of deprivation of liberty," announced the spokesman of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), Vukas Radonjić.

Martinović told reporters after hearing Perović that she denied the criminal act.

"She has nothing to hide, she answered every question of the prosecutor. Her decisions represent the decisions of the agency. Since the detention was determined yesterday, we are now waiting when she will be brought before the investigating judge," said Martinović.

He said that "Perović traveled less than 39.000 kilometers in her official vehicle".

Uncontrolled consumption of fuel at the expense of the citizens of Montenegro without legal basis, as well as unauthorized signing of wages, benefits and overtime hours, are allegedly the reasons why Perović was arrested yesterday.

According to the knowledge of "Vijesti", the Agency has excluded documentation that, among other things, also refers to travel orders, but also to decisions by which it signed salary awards, overtime work, minutes from the meetings of the ASK Council...

The SDT is responsible for criminal acts of high corruption, including abuse of official position, if the perpetrator is a public official, regardless of the amount of material or other benefit obtained.
