Supreme Court judge Ana Vuković was the only one to apply for the public advertisement for the election of the president of that court, the Judicial Council announced.
The public advertisement for the election of the head of the Supreme Court, the eighth in a row, was announced on April 4.
Vuković, along with Judge Ranko Vukić, was also a candidate in the previous competition, but the General Session of the Supreme Court did not then determine the proposal of a candidate for the president of the court, because none of the applicants received the necessary two-thirds support.

At that time, ten judges voted for Vuković, and two for Vukić.
In a press release, the Judicial Council earlier appealed to the judges of the Supreme Court to responsibly determine the candidate's proposal when declaring and voting at the General Session and enable the Council to elect the President of the Supreme Court.
Action for Human Rights assessed that repeating the procedure for electing a candidate for the president of the Supreme Court does not make sense until the law is amended to allow a simple majority of judges, instead of two-thirds, to propose a candidate to the Judicial Council.
The position of President of the Supreme Court has been vacant since Vesna Medenica resigned from that position on December 31, 2020.
In the acting mandate from September 2021, the most important position in the judiciary is covered by judge Vesna Vučković.
