Border police officers Nikola Janičić, Zoran Radonjić, Igor Živković, Enver Drešaj, Momo Popivoda, Ivan Boljević, Vaso Radunović and Dragoman Milošević were arrested today.

They are suspected of accepting bribes.

One of the arrested fell ill after his colleagues started to handcuff him, Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović announced at a press conference, answering questions from Vijesti.

That suspect was transported to the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG).

Šaranović also explained at the press conference that seven people were arrested at their workplace at the Božaj border crossing, and one in Danilovgrad.

Saranović said that they have repeatedly emphasized that they are focused on the fight against organized crime and corruption, and that is why they launched a whole set of control mechanisms.

"A multi-month action was carried out this morning and the established facts pointed to the illegal behavior of eight police officers," Saranović said.

He explained that this morning the Department for Internal Control (OUK) submitted criminal charges to the Basic State Prosecutor's Office against eight police officers, due to the suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of accepting bribes for an extended period of time.

He pointed out that the action lasted five months.

The police officers are suspected of taking money in order to fail to perform the official actions they were obliged to perform.

Šaranović: Measures are being taken to arrest 27 foreigners

He announced that the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department together with the officers of the Anti-Crime Sector are taking measures to detain 27 foreign citizens.

Šaranović said that it is now clear that since 2013, someone did not want to implement measures to establish a rulebook on checking the lifestyle of police officers.

"The aforementioned actions that will be continued in the coming period will be continuous, because our determination that we will not remain silent on illegality must be clear to everyone," he said.

He said that they must tidy up their yard and protect the honorable policemen.

He added that the report was filed against 27 foreign citizens, who are suspected of the criminal offense of bribery.

In addition to Šaranović, assistant directors of the Police Administration Miloš Rakonjac and Milutin Vasiljević, secretary Jovana Mijović and head of the Internal Control Department Darko Vujović were also present at the conference.
