Ibrahimović: More intensive cooperation between local governments and the Eco Fund is necessary

"The position of local self-governments in the north of the country is very ungrateful, since there is still no regional landfill. We need to communicate more strongly with the representatives of the municipalities in order to specify the projects that can be realized or planned for the next year in cooperation with the Eco Fund.

For successful projects, more intensive cooperation between local governments and the Eco Fund is necessary, said Deputy Prime Minister for Regional Development and Minister of Capital Investments, Ervin Ibrahimović.

Today, he met with representatives of the Eco Fund to discuss current projects that the institution is currently implementing, as well as the plan for the next year.

The Executive Director of the Eco Fund, Draško Boljević, and the Assistant Director, Nikola Peković, presented current activities with a special focus on projects in the north of Montenegro, since during the previous period in communication with local self-governments, certain locations and projects were identified that must be found in The work plan of the Eco Fund for the next year.

The Eco Fund, according to its representatives, continues with projects in the field of conservation, sustainable use, protection and improvement of the environment, energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources and energy, all with the aim of creating a favorable business climate and conditions for private sector investment in environmentally friendly ventures in Montenegro.

Ibrahimović stated that the problems that society faces when it comes to environmental protection are recognized, noting that the problem of waste disposal is particularly pronounced.

"The position of local self-governments in the north of the country is very ungrateful, since there is still no regional landfill. "We need to communicate more strongly with the representatives of the municipalities in order to specify the projects that can be realized or planned for the next year in cooperation with the Eco Fund," said Ibrahimović.

He added that solutions and the possibility of cooperation with the fund must be proposed as soon as possible for the two illegal landfills in Rožaje and Mojkovac.

Boljević also recalled the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Municipality of Plav and the Eco Fund, which aims to revitalize and protect Lake Plav and build a wastewater treatment plant and sewage network in the Municipality of Plav.

Ibrahimović stated that he supports the Eco Fund's activities in providing assistance to municipalities in the north of the country in solving the open environmental issues they face, pointing out the necessity of building a regional landfill in Bijelo Polje, and bearing in mind the fact that the problem of illegal landfills is for 11 municipalities in the north growing and that adequate solutions must be proposed urgently.

"The projects we discussed today are very important for the further development of the northern region. I am pleased with the announcements for projects concerning Lake Plav, as well as the possibility of support from the Eco Fund for solving the problem of the "wild dump" in Rožaj, and I believe that through more intensive cooperation with the local self-government, sustainable models will be found in the coming period," he said. Ibrahimović.

He emphasized that cooperation with the Eco Fund is an opportunity for local authorities to solve these problems in a systematic and sustainable way.

"We will give special emphasis to this during this and the next year," concluded Ibrahimović.
