The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is advocating a broader coalition in Ulcinj, which would also include the former feuding partners in the local government - Nazif Cungu's Force and Fatmir Đeka's Democratic Party.
There would be room in the coalition for Đeka's partners, Mehmet Bardhi's Democratic Alliance and Amir Holaj's Perspective, as well as Mehmed Zenka's Democratic Union of Albanians.
At a meeting held yesterday in Podgorica, DPS deputy president Duško Marković, member of the Presidency Branimir Gvozdenović and head of the Ulcinj municipal committee Ljoro Nrekić told Đeka, Holaj and Niko Đeljošaj that everything will be decided by the party's Presidency on Monday.
The interlocutor of "Vijesti", who attended the meeting, said that DPS will probably try to save all partners from the state level with the offer on Monday in order to strengthen its position before the next parliamentary elections.
That source said that it is certain that the DPS will ask the Albanian parties, regardless of which of them it makes an agreement with, for the position of the President of the Municipality, which should belong to Nrekić.
Albanian parties are in coalition with DPS at the state level, but it is uncertain how and whether they will accept cooperation at the local level as well.
At the talks on Monday, the representatives of Force, Cungu and vice-presidents Genci Nimanbegu and Jaudet Cakuli, offered the DPS a re-composition of the government, but they demanded that the first chair of the city belong to them.
The previous government in Ulcinj consisted of Forca with eight councilors, Đeka's coalition with seven and two URA councilors.
In the opposition were DPS with nine, DUA with three, SDP with two and SNP and Front with one councilor each.
The outgoing ruling coalition has not been functioning for more than half a year, which is why both Cungu and Đeka started negotiations with DPS.
