The Parliament of Montenegro adopted amendments to the Law on Temporary Child Support, the aim of which is to unblock and put the Alimony Fund back into operation.

The proposal for changes was submitted to the parliamentary procedure by the parliamentary club of the Citizens' Movement URA.

URA MP Ana Novaković Đurović said that the goal of the changes is to unblock the Alimony Fund and thus help one of the most vulnerable categories of the population, children who are neglected by irresponsible parents, as well as single parents.

During the discussion, Đurović reminded that the Law was adopted on the initiative of the Women's Club of the previous convocation of the Parliament and that, after several months, the competent institutions noticed certain legal gaps.

As she stated, the problem was that decisions were made with retroactive effect, which was not the meaning of the law.

According to Novaković Đurovič, the problem was also that the centers for social work interpreted the documentation differently as proof of the fulfillment of the conditions for using funds from the Alimony Fund.

The Ministry of Finance, based on the opinion of the protector of property and legal interests of Montenegro, issued a decision and an instruction that funds from the Alimony Fund can no longer be paid out in this way.

Since February of this year, children and parents have not been able to exercise their rights under this law.
