The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) held a forum in Pljevlje, as part of the campaign for internal party elections, after which they announced that "nationalist politics" in that municipality would collapse and that DPS would win "in the fight for civil society".
Candidates for vice-presidents of DPS spoke at the forum.
"It is a privilege to speak in Pljevlja, especially when I see you in such numbers. Pljevlja is a city with a deep historical tradition, when we talk about historical legacy. "Municipium S, Husein Pasha's mosque and all that is the intellectual reach of this environment should really be proud not only of the Pljeval area, but also of Montenegro", said the candidate for the vice-president of DPS, Abaz Dizdarević.
He said that "a kind of social regression" has occurred in Montenegro.
"From the paradigm of a multicultural society, we have arrived at these tirades from city squares where hostility towards our neighbors spreads. I have a problem with those songs that melt the hearts of the neighbors, which you could hear the previous nights, but which we listen to almost every day," said Dizdarević, as reported by DPS.
He also said that he was surprised that the president of the country, Jakov Milatović, and the prime minister, Milojko Spajić, were silent about the mentioned event in Pljevlja, where Chetnik songs were sung from the city square.
"Milatović and Spajić probably think that if they close their eyes hard enough, none of those songs will be heard here in Pljevlja. They propagate civil politics, and we see nationalist tirades in the squares all over our country," said Dizdarević. "Unlike others, we belong to the party of proud, decent people and we will not respond to their chauvinism with chauvinism, because the role of DPS was and will always be emancipatory," he concluded.
Dušan Raičević, also a candidate for the vice-president of DPS, said that Pljevlja rests on respect for diversity and that everyone in Montenegro should be proud of that fact.
"We have to fight against the retrograde currents, which "dared" to replace the state symbols with tricolors, representing them with their own flags, which I guess we should bow down to," said Raičević.
He also referred to the upcoming internal party elections in the DPS.
"I am happy and proud that as of January 28, the president of our party will be Danijel Živković, with whom I managed to win victories in the election cycles that we jointly tried to organize in Bar. I am very proud of that fact as well as the way we worked. Our party faces many challenges, and this evening, for which we have gathered, is the first of those internal party challenges that our party, which initiated the process of reconstruction and reorganization, needs to face," Raičević said.
"In intensive communication with our members and citizens, as it has always been done, we will try to listen to what their needs are, what are real life problems, and based on that we will all create policies together. This must be the party's method of work in every place in Montenegro. I am sure that here, in Pljevlja, there is great human and personnel potential, that it is in all of you who have gathered here", he concluded.
Candidate for DPS vice president Elvir Zvrko said that the people of Pljevlja are people "with innate wisdom and instinct to make good political and life choices".
"What particularly pleases me is the persistence of DPS in defending what are our goals and values that we stand for. You know very well what you went through from the nineties until now. But the strength of the DPS lies in the fact that we have survived despite the hopes of our political competition that we will disappear", said Zvrko.
He believes that only the DPS "has the strength to return Montenegro to the right path", and that as a party it must return to power as soon as possible, because, as he said, "only the DPS is the guarantor of the survival of Montenegro".
"Let's talk to our members, sympathizers, neighbors, friends. Let's convince them of the correctness of our civic policy and the superior values represented by our party. We have to take responsibility, to work as a team, together, so that all of you, gathered here, take part and support this process of direct election of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Socialists", concluded Zvrko.
