The turnout in the first internal party elections in the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) by 13 pm was 40 percent.
This was announced to "Vijesti" by the president of the Central Election Commission of that party and member of the Parliament of Montenegro, Nikola Milović.
He said that the elections are proceeding very successfully, and that the members of that party have dominantly decided to exercise their right to vote through an application, and not by voting in municipal committees.
"The dominant form of voting this time was through the application, where we enabled our members to vote very simply, transparently and openly," Milović pointed out.
Election day in the largest opposition party started at 20 am and will end at XNUMX pm.
Milović said that "very soon" after the end of the voting, the preliminary results will be announced.
"Vijesti" was unofficially told that the press conference where the new party leadership will address will be held at 21:30 p.m.
The candidate for president of that party is the current acting head of the DPS, Danijel Živković.
Six candidates are competing for the four vice presidential positions: Elvir Zvrko, Aleksandra Vuković Kuč, Abaz Dizdarević, Dušan Raičević, Jevto Eraković and Ivan Vuković.
We expect other parties to follow this path
Milović said that this way of internal party elections will be a new political boost in the political life of Montenegro, adding that he expects other parties to follow this path.
"This is the first time that the leadership of a party is directly elected by its members. We expect other parties to follow this path, because it will mean a completely new political fabric in Montenegro," Milović told "Vijesta".
He noted that "this is the way we will further democratize the entire process in Montenegro".
