The arrest of Jelena Perović, director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK), represents a key moment in the fight against corruption and organized crime, which have been destroying the foundations of our country for a long time, said Maja Vučelić, MP for CIVIS.
"This arrest is proof that justice in Montenegro is starting to win the battle against those who for years used their positions to protect the corrupt regime. Jelena Perović, as the last protector of the former criminal and corrupt regime in office, turned the ASK into a spinning weather vane according to the interests of those who were blowing the winds of corruption. This arrest symbolizes a change in the wind and hope for the restoration of integrity in our institutions," the statement reads.
She emphasized that she fully supports the work of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SST), which, as she stated, tirelessly cleans Montenegro of corruption.
"The arrests that have been carried out in recent days are not only an act of justice but also a clear message that no one will ever be above the law, not even those who were supposed to be its strongest guards," said Vučelić.
She said that it is worrying that the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), instead of supporting these important steps, expresses, as she points out, "condolences" for the arrested officials, which directly undermines the work of the Special State Prosecutor's Office.
"Such moves show that there are still those who would rather protect corrupt individuals instead of fighting for justice and honesty. I call on all citizens and political forces in Montenegro to unite in support of SDT and other institutions that work to create a just society , freed from corruption. Only with joint efforts can we ensure that our country moves on the path of justice, honesty and respect for the law," the statement concluded.
