The Assembly did not accept the proposal of the parliamentary group of the Citizens' Movement URA to include on the agenda of today's session amendments to the Law on Social and Child Protection, which proposed an increase in the amount of the monthly child allowance.

22 MPs voted for that proposal, ten were against it, and 29 abstained.

The URA proposed that the child allowance be increased from 30 to 45 euros, for children in a state of financial need from 44 to 66 euros, and for children receiving personal disability benefits it should be 90, instead of 60 euros.

URA MP Ana Novaković Đurović, explaining the proposal, said that the constant rise in prices in Montenegro is the reason why they are asking for legal changes.

He reminded that URA is one of the proponents of the law that enabled all children in Montenegro to receive child allowance, which was adopted by the Parliament in May 2021.

"This is a step higher, because the constant increase in prices and inflation significantly reduced the essential and financial value of the current legal solution," said Novaković Đurović.

She said that they proposed that these legal changes enter into force on January 1 of the following year, so that there would be enough time to plan and provide additional money in the budget for the following year.

The Assembly did not accept the URA's proposal to supplement the agenda with amendments to the Law on Confiscation of Property Gains from Criminal Activity.
