Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with the Vice Chancellor of Germany and Federal Minister of Economy and Climate Protection Robert Habek during his official visit to Berlin.

The energy transition was the focus of the conversation, and Spajić pointed out that it is a great opportunity for Montenegro.

"As a Mediterranean country, we have a lot of sun, there is also a lot of investment in wind power plants, but we also have great potential for the development of hydropower plants. Along with tourism, these will be the pillars of economic development," the Prime Minister pointed out, as announced by his cabinet.

Habek emphasized that one of Germany's priorities is to increase energy production from renewable sources.

"Currently, we have about 50 percent of energy from renewable sources, and our energy requirements are huge. We are focused on the development of wind and solar potential. In this way, we influence the price of electricity, which is very important for the economy", said Habek and added:

"We have cooperation with several countries in the field of development of energy production from renewable sources, we can similarly help you and enable cooperation with companies that have extensive experience."

The meeting also discussed the future of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, how to sustainably ensure the stability of the energy sector from renewable sources, without using coal. It was also established that Germany is in a similar position when it comes to reducing energy production from fossil fuels.

During the meeting, great support for Montenegro's European path and obtaining IBAR was highlighted.

The importance of the Berlin process as a way of economic integration of the Western Balkans is apostrophized.

"The geopolitical situation was also discussed, and it was noted that Russia is trying to influence the region through the media, which could be reduced through a set of media laws, which should be adopted after consultation with the European Commission," the statement said.
