The decision of the Constitutional Court to reject proposals for determining the unconstitutionality of the Basic Agreement concluded between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) is fair, said the president of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) Vladimir Joković.
He said that after the decision of the Constitutional Court, "the issue has finally been put to rest".
Joković said that Montenegro is a country where everyone is guaranteed the right to freedom of religion and where religious communities are free to perform religious ceremonies and religious affairs.
"The fundamental contract with the SPC confirmed these freedoms and the arrangement of relations between the state and the church in accordance with European acquis. And, finally, with this signing, the Serbian Orthodox Church is equal to other religious communities in Montenegro", said Joković in the announcement.
He said that the SNP is proud that the Basic Agreement was signed thanks to their party.
"Our insistence on his signing was the most important condition for the entry of the SNP into the 43rd Government of Montenegro," said Joković.
He added that they are particularly proud of the fact that, despite the constitutional and legal principles, the Basic Agreement was a reflection of the will of thousands of believers, who, he said, were ready to make any sacrifice to defend their religion, church, history and tradition.
