The Montenegrin government hides its incompetence by institutional persecution of dissidents, said the president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Danijel Živković, adding that he will point out the flagrant violation of human rights to the public and the international community.

The DPS announced that on Friday Živković met with councilors from Montenegrin local parliaments, in order to jointly consider the current situation on the political scene of Montenegro.

As stated, the political scene which these days, more than ever, is characterized by extremely high political pressures, blackmail and persecution of political dissenters.

"The parliamentary majority, which shows day by day that it is unstable and incapable of joint functioning, instrumentalized the institutions that started the persecution of former and current state officials in order to hide the devastating consequences that affect Montenegrin society day by day," said Živković.

As he stated, inflation is growing, and the economic downturn is approaching.

"Arguments over the security sector, mutual accusations of crime and corruption, lack of agreement on at least one value and ideological issue want to be camouflaged with arrests and media satanization," said Živković.

He said that there is nothing to it and that the DPS is ready for a fight in which they will use all legal and political methods in order to point out to the public and the international community the flagrant violation of human rights and the political persecution of dissidents who, under the auspices of the fight for the rule of law, happening in Montenegro.

"Our party is ready to defend what we have devotedly worked on in the last 30 years - the rule of law, the stability of institutions and, therefore, the democracy of Montenegro," said Živković.

He added that it was witnessed in the previous days that with great fanfare and media announcements, several former and current state officials were detained in order, according to him, to criminalize the previous government at all costs.

Živković stated that the epilogues of such processes are still unknown, even though all these people were declared guilty beforehand in the "regime tabloids".

"At the same time, it is evident that the holders of public offices put pressure on the judicial authorities and that this represents the interference of politics in the judicial power, which was stated in the report of the Department of State for Montenegro for last year," said Živković.

He said that the DPS will show readiness, determination and perseverance in resisting the judicial persecution that has apparently begun.

Živković concluded that this party is ready to fight for an independent judiciary, which will be the basis of preventing the institutional collapse at all levels that we have witnessed in the past few days.

At the meeting, which was attended by more than 150 DPS councilors from all over Montenegro, it was stated that the party is ready to respond to "all the pressures that have been coming lately from the instrumentalized judicial authorities that continue the already established practice of selective treatment".
