The NGO Expeditio from Kotor is organizing the exhibition "History that doesn't exist" at Pjaca od Kino in Kotor tomorrow at 18 p.m.

"History that doesn't exist" is an art project inspired by the research called "Women's map of Boka Kotorska" which was realized by the NGO Anima from June to December 2013.

The original idea was to identify the layers of women's history of Boka through research, and then present them to the public in a creative way through an artistic intervention in the public space. The research of the NGO Anima consisted of searching materials in libraries and archives (searching for original documents and books, newspapers and magazines), and interviews were also conducted with a number of individuals.

"During the research work on the "Women's Map of Boka Kotorska" it became clear that there is very little information about women in libraries and archives, that the information is not consolidated or is difficult to access. This situation confirmed for us the picture of clear divisions into: The public sphere that belongs to men - the one that is recorded, remembered and glorified and the private sphere that belongs to women (the space of everyday life, reproduction) - the one that remains unremembered, implied and, from a historical point of view, ignored," states the press release of the NGO Expeditio.

The lack of information in existing sources during the research of the "Women's Map of Boka Kotorska" prompted the launch of an action called HISTORY THAT IS NOT.

"We thought that, from the personal - private memories of women and men, it is interesting and valuable to see how many different (wonderful, terrible, warm, heroic) women's stories are hidden, and how important it is to preserve them from oblivion and to re-evaluate the private sphere in which are silent, from generation to generation, those stories sediment one over the other in a long and continuous silence", said the NGO Expeditio.

On March 8, 2014, that NGO issued a public invitation to citizens to send scanned photos of their mothers, great-grandmothers, neighbors, friends, teachers, godmothers and other dear women who marked their lives (and are no longer with them). Along with the photo, it was important to submit a short story about why that person was special. The invitation was addressed to everyone, regardless of gender and age.

Over 60 personal stories and many photos were collected over the course of a month, some of which will be displayed on canvases in the public spaces of Kotor.

Since they could not fully present all the written material and numerous photographs they received in the form of an exhibition, the NGO Expeditio decided to launch the website "Istorija koje nema" after the exhibition, on which the precious material will be published and available to everyone. was collected. The website will also allow the existing collection of memories to be enriched with new stories.
