The delegation of the European Union (EU) in Montenegro donated equipment for more efficient waste management to 11 Montenegrin municipalities, the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism announced.

The Ministry said that, with the financial support of the EU Delegation of 430 thousand euros, all Montenegrin municipalities received 1.247 containers, while 11 municipalities were provided with 11 presses for baling selectively separated recyclable waste components.

"In order to achieve the very demanding goals from Chapter 27, it is first of all necessary to adequately organize selective waste collection," said the Ministry.

The Director of the Directorate for Projects in the Ministry, Marina Izgarević Pavićević, said that it is necessary for local self-government units, and especially utility companies, to invest even more creativity, effort and effort in order to achieve results.

"According to the information we have from the field, the fact that utility companies, as our important partners in this entire process, are working to change the habits of individuals is pleasing," emphasized Pavićević.

Deputy Head of the Department for Cooperation in the EU Delegation, Audrone Urbonaviciute, stated that waste management is one of the most complex and challenging areas of the process of accession to the Union.

"We expect that Montenegro will make the best use of EU assistance and take serious steps towards EU standards and goals that were defined in the accession process," said Urbonaviciute.

As stated in the announcement, the assistant director of the Public Works Administration, Predrag Radulović, stated that this project is slowly but surely placing Montenegro side by side with the EU countries.

The Director of the Municipal Enterprise in Kolašin, Milivoje Bulatović, thanked the Ministry and the EU Delegation for the donation, especially considering that the Municipality of Kolašin has not received appropriate communal equipment since 2011, which it could not provide from its budget.

The Ministry said that they expect that future cooperation with the EU Delegation, as well as with all relevant state and local institutions, will be as successful as that project, as well as that Montenegro will be able to fulfill all obligations from Chapter 27 as soon as possible.
