The citizens' initiative Save Sinjajevina said that if they destroy Sinjajevina, they will destroy all the mountains and the future of Montenegro.
"Today, on the International Day of Mountains, December 11, we draw the attention of the Government of Montenegro to finally come to its senses and start taking care of its mountains, the wanton destruction of which it is silent on," states the announcement of the Citizens' Initiative Save Sinjajevina.
They add that International Mountain Day is celebrated every year on December 11.
"Increased attention to the importance of mountains led the United Nations to declare 2002 the UN International Year of Mountains. The first international day was celebrated for the first time the following year, in 2003. Since then, every year on this day, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , which is in charge of celebrating the Day of the Mountains, proposes a theme with which the world public gets to know and calls for pointing out and raising awareness about the importance of mountain areas around the world, their values, problems and the effects that mountains have on the natural and social features of these areas and the people who in they live in them. Mountains are home to 15 percent of the world's population and a quarter of the world's land animals and plants. Mountains provide water for the daily life of half of humanity. Mountains host about half of the world's biodiversity hotspots and 30 percent of all key biodiversity areas," they said. on the occasion of International Mountain Day.
They said that Montenegro is a land of mountains, which are its symbol and its name.
However, today, as they say, like never before in Montenegrin history, Montenegrin mountains are threatened and targeted by various forms of devastation.
"Maybe Montenegro is small on the surface, but that's why it is high and there are 250 peaks higher than 2.000 meters on our mountains, the highest of which are Maja Kolata 2.534 masl and Maja Rosit 2.524 masl on Prokletije and Bobotov Kuk 2.523 masl on Durmitor", they added. are from that organization.
They pointed out that it is not only the peaks that make our mountains special, but also the people, animals, pastures, forests, way of life, waters, land, air...
Instead of the Government devoting itself to developing infrastructure and restoring life in the mountains, it has been persistently doing the opposite for decades.
"The Montenegrin authorities are so opposed to the development of their own country that they still persist in killing the largest Montenegrin mountain, Sinjajevina, on which they want to establish a monstrous military training ground," they said.
They state that while individuals are bragging about their alleged love for Montenegro, they are at the same time supporting publicly or secretly, that they are shooting at the heart of Montenegro.
"Instead of this problem being solved, it is now more pronounced than ever because the final sinister act is being prepared, which aims to destroy the local livestock community, poison the land, water and air of Sinjajevina, and destroy any chance for its development. This cannot be allowed in any way and one man who truly cares about the survival of this country", say Sačuvajmo Sinjajevina.
They claim that we must not forget the impotence of the state when it was necessary to defend Durmitor from the attacks of those who were called investors in the government, but in fact, as they add, they are devastators, for whom profit is more important than anything, especially the state and its future.
They say that Durmitor was defended by the citizens, so the citizens will defend Sinjajevina as well.
They point out that from every foot of Montenegro you can see at least one mountain and that is a wealth that everyone seems to value more than we ourselves.
It is time, as they say, to understand that without healthy and preserved mountains, there is no Montenegro.
They say that the future of Montenegro and all its mountains is being defended on Sinjajevina.
"If they steal and destroy Sinjajevina from us today, tomorrow they will come for all the others. That is why we will not congratulate you on International Mountain Day, but invite you all to fight for our mountains", concludes Save Sinjajevina.
