The Protection of the Space of Montenegro and the Regional Water Supply of the Montenegrin Coast, with the patronage of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism in cooperation with the local community of Grbavci, carried out an action to improve and widen the road from Vukovac to the source of "Bolje Sestre".
It is a local road that was narrow and overgrown with vegetation and as such was not safe for traffic. Due to the safety of the employees of the Regional Waterworks, whose workplaces are located at the source itself, the rehabilitation of this local road was started.
"On the expansion of the local road Grbavci - Bolje Sestre - Vukovci, work was done for four days in a length of six kilometers. For a long time, there were no activities on the part of local administrations to bring this local road to a state of safe traffic flow. The project had two goals, on the one hand, it was necessary to ensure the safe arrival of employees from the Regional Waterworks to the source of "Bolje Sestre" and the establishment better cooperation with the local population who also use this road, and on the other hand, strengthening the capacity of cooperation with local communities where the regional water supply system is located and passes. This cooperation enabled local residents to have a greater influence on decisions affecting the community. On this project, they proved to be partners in initiative, planning and decision-making of importance for their environment", announced the Regional Waterworks.
All these activities, as they point out, are aimed at contributing to the development of local communities and opening new opportunities for cooperation.
"Combining the resources of state enterprises with the needs of the local environment will encourage innovation and the development of new opportunities for the local population, and the promotion of the ecological concept is of key importance for the economic development of Montenegro. This will help to solve the specific problems and challenges that local communities face, so we need to work together to identify and implement new solutions. Cooperation between the local environment and state enterprises has the potential to create synergy between economic, social and environmental interests, resulting in better living conditions for the local population and the sustainable development of the community. Also, LLC "Protection of Space of Montenegro" and LLC "Regional Waterworks of the Montenegrin Coast", with the patronage of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, simultaneously carried out an action to clean and arrange the bed of the Morača River in the territory Grbavca, although it is not in their jurisdiction. LLC "Protection of Space of Montenegro" worked for six days to remove waste and debris from the Second Sanitary Zone of the source of "Bolje Sestre". On that occasion, they took away 315 cubic meters of waste, which was deposited at a landfill located 25 km from the area of Grbavac", they state from this company and add:
"We are fighting with all means to save the source of "Bolje Sestre", which supplies water to the Montenegrin coast, from further devastation. The behavior of unscrupulous citizens when it comes to dumping waste on the banks of the Morača in the Second Zone of Sanitary Protection is inadmissible and reprehensible. Unfortunately, the awareness of individuals is at a low level when it comes to environmental protection. The human factor, which changed the natural conditions in the basin of the "Bolje Sestre" source, in this way influenced and continues to influence the reduction of water resources and, therefore, the deterioration of water quality. "Because of the very porous intergranular aquifer that is exposed to the surface, where every possible pollutant can easily reach the groundwater (mechanical works, traffic, agriculture, etc.)", they emphasize from the Regional Waterworks.
Illegal disposal of waste, as they point out, in zones where it is strictly prohibited, destroys the protected area of the source, and therefore such activities must not be tolerated by competent inspections.
"The regional water supply is planning to soon install additional video surveillance in the sanitary protection zones under its jurisdiction. We are ready to meet any action and significant project of local communities that are of general interest. What is pleasing is the fact that the citizens of Grbavac are more than satisfied with the activities that were carried out in the previous days on their territory, and we are very grateful to them for a wonderful cooperation and hospitality. We would like to thank the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism for continuous support and help, especially Minister Ana Novaković Đurović, State Secretary Zorica Krsmanović and Director of the Directorate for Ecology and Climate Change Kemal Grbović. Their contribution to supporting the development of the Regional Water Supply is of particular importance. Activities for the sustainable development of Montenegro and the preservation of the environment are carried out jointly. We believe that this is the right and correct path that contributes to the development and progress of Montenegro. We are sure that the successful cooperation with DOO "Protection of the area of Montenegro", which is correct, professional and professional, will continue in future projects", concludes the Regional Waterworks.
