President of the Municipality of Ulcinj Omer Bajraktari and President of the Municipality of Staten Island (Staten Island) Vito Fossela signed a twinning agreement between the two municipalities today in Staten Island, in the United States of America, according to a statement from Bajraktari's office.
The signing of the agreement was also attended by the Minister for Human and Minority Rights in the Government of Montenegro, Fatmir Đeka.
The signed agreement envisages the establishment of cooperation in many areas of importance for the two municipalities, especially in the fields of culture, education, economy and institutional cooperation, the letter says.
Staten Island is the southernmost municipality of the City of New York, where the largest diaspora community from the municipality of Ulcinj lives, whose number is estimated at several thousand.
The signing of the agreement was preceded by intense social activity of the diaspora associations "Ulqini", "Ana e Malit" and "Kraja". This agreement represents the first institutional cooperation between Ulcinj and Staten Island.
