The President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Omer Bajraktari, said that he is happy and proud of everything that the local government, led by him, has done in the last two years for the revival of that city, stressing that current investments in the city amount to more than 100 million euros.
"I am extremely proud that we do not divide and fight the people, that we do not engage in intrigues and sowing illusions, so it has become normal that the spirit of unity and cooperation can be breathed like fresh air. A young team of people, strongly supported by the ruling parties, succeeded in a very short time, with a lot of self-denying work, with great effort and creative energy, to turn a new, more beautiful page in the history of this municipality. Today, Ulcinj is a city that is rapidly and steadily developing, with consolidated public finances, in which the number of inhabitants is growing, a city that people like to come to, a city from which good news comes," said Bajraktari at the ceremonial session of the local Assembly, on the occasion of Ulcinja Day, on the first Saturday of April.
He stated that the job was not difficult for the local self-government.
"Because, when you work with heart and love for your city, even when the results are visible every day, when you see satisfied people around you, you feel the initiative and desire to contribute to the common good, then you too grow on those waves of happiness, optimism and hope. That's why everything is easy and simple, although there are extremely many challenges. Just as Ulcinj is spatially large, and the needs of the citizens are diverse. But it is all the easier when they know that they can rely on their Municipality, whose main goal is to develop care for people ", said Bajraktari.
He said that a society is maintained by moral values, such as solidarity, humanism and charity, and that this is best felt in these mild days of fasting and spiritual cleansing.
"And a new challenge is already ahead of us - the tourist season, on which we all depend. We have prepared well for it, first of all, by investing in improving the infrastructure and the quality of our offer. I am, of course, referring to the works on the water and sewage network, which are financed from the funds of the German KfW bank, and the beginning of the construction of the luxurious Otrant Reefs tourist complex on Velika plaža. The total investments currently being carried out in Ulcinj reach the figure of 100 million euros," said Bajraktari.
He assessed that it can already be stated that the upcoming season will be good and profitable, although due to the great competition, there will be a fight for every guest. The advantages of Ulcinj, he added, are still the safety of the destination, the quality of services, favorable prices, the friendliness of the people and good connections with regional markets.
"However, we should not worry about the future of our tourism, because, as data from last year show, almost a third of our guests are young people between the ages of 18 and 30. The biggest threat remains illegal and excessive construction, that is, the imperative for Ulcinj to develop on sustainable and responsible way", he said.
He repeated that Ulcinj launched a constitutional appeal that, like other municipalities on the coast, it manages its territory and plans development in the so-called zone of marine assets.
"It covers as much as 13 percent of our territory, and in our neighboring Bar, it is 10 times less. In Ulcinj, it is 33 million square meters, in Budva, 15 times less. Therefore, we expect the Constitutional Court to confirm these facts about unequal treatment, that is, about the discrimination that is carried out over the municipality of Ulcinj for 30 years", he expressed his expectation, adding that Ulcinj "is celebrating nine decades since the establishment of the Saltworks this year with wounds in its soul".
He reminded that with the support of foreign partners and the Government, the Municipality is working on the formation of a new company, in order to start production and preserve the unique biodiversity of that area.
"I am particularly pleased to point out that there has never been so much invested in sports, education, culture and agriculture in Ulcinj, and that it is already being returned to us through the successes of our athletes, students, creators and farmers. There is also our valuable diaspora, always ready to help. Maybe "Now is the best moment, in this turbulent time, for all those who can, to return to their city. And now and here, fraternally and harmoniously, we build our Ulcinj together," said Bajraktari.
The President of the Municipal Assembly, Ardijan Mavrić, reminded that Ulcinj is one of the oldest cities in Montenegro and that this is evidenced by the Old Town, the Illyrian cyclops wall, the town of Svač, a long maritime tradition and the carved figure of the Illyrian sea god Bindi.
"Throughout the centuries, Ulcinj has been recognized for its rich maritime tradition, olive growing and the great diversity of cultures and customs of the people who live there. This is precisely where the symbolism of Ulcinj Municipality Day lies. Its diversity is the most deserving of the fact that the residents of Ulcinj today have the most open attitudes in Montenegro," he said. is Mavrić stating that today Ulcinj is one of the main tourist destinations of Montenegro, a city with the most protected and biodiversity valuable areas, recognized for Velika beach, Ada Bojana, Valdanos, Ulcinj Solana, the ancient town of Švač, Ulcinj Maslinad, Suma mountain, Međureča canyon, The small beach and the Old Town.
He reminded that two years have passed since the government in Ulcinj was held by the coalition "For a new beginning" and the New Democratic Force of Forca.
"This coalition brought to Ulcinj the long-awaited political stability, functional local self-government and the beginning of the implementation of large infrastructure projects and changes for the better. For the achievement of these results, partnership relations between government officials, mutual cooperation and understanding, respect for the obligations arising from coalition agreements and of other strategic documents of the Municipality of Ulcinj. I am convinced that this cooperation will continue with an even stronger intensity in the second half of the mandate," Mavrić said.
He pointed out that infrastructure improvement, sustainable tourism, youth education and employment, environmental protection and technological development are the government's priority goals in the coming period so that Ulcinj continues its path of development and prosperity.
"We are aware of the challenges that lie ahead of us, but we also firmly believe in the strength of our community to overcome them. With joint work, dedication and cooperation, I am sure that we can achieve everything we have imagined for our Ulcinj. As Ulcinj has been a symbol throughout history resilience, diversity, and wealth, today we also have the opportunity to work together to create a better future. With joint efforts, we can make Ulcinj a place where residents live with dignity and pride, and where tourists regularly return," said Mavrić.
In addition to councilors, the state president Jakov Milatović, deputy prime minister Nik Đeljošaj, minister Fatmir Đeka, former prime minister Dritan Abazović, MPs, leaders and representatives of political parties, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of municipalities, religious communities and the civil sector attended the ceremonial session.
Bajraktari and Mavrić presented the "Honorary Citizen of Ulcinj" awards to educator Nadžija Alibega Bučinac, a well-known activist for women's rights, who belongs to the first generations of teachers in Montenegro and Kosovo, to publisher Fatmir Toči and posthumously to folk healer Zefa Brisković.
The session began with the singing of the Montenegrin national anthem, and those present enjoyed the appropriate artistic program, which continued later on the Little Beach.
A carnival parade was also held from the Cultural Center to Pristan.
At 17:XNUMX p.m., the foundation stone for the construction of the luxurious Otrant Reefs tourist complex on the Velika beach is scheduled.
After that, Bajraktari will host an iftar at the Otrant Hotel.
