Locals of Zbljev and other villages that gravitate to the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant will block the Pljevlja - Đurđevića Tara road for an hour on Thursday, April 17, on the part of the road where mining trucks cross that road to deliver coal to the only Montenegrin thermal power plant.
As they stated in the notice submitted to the police, they are organizing the roadblock because of the problems caused by the Maljevac landfill, where ash and slag are deposited, which are produced as byproducts of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant.
They also announced that, if the problem is not solved, they will organize daily blockades, with the fact that each subsequent day the blockade will last an hour longer than the previous one.
Clouds of dust from the Maljevac landfill, carried by a strong wind, covered Zbljevo and other surrounding villages yesterday, and the dust particles ended up in the city center.
The executive director of the Breznica Ecological Society, Milorad Mitrović, said that clouds of dust covered the city for hours, even the villages located kilometers away.
"The most vulnerable were the inhabitants of the villages of Zbljeva, Gornji and Donji Komini. The citizens of these villages have announced the blockade of the Pljevlja Đurđevića Tara highway for an hour due to the incident and are demanding an immediate response from the authorities. If the problem is not solved urgently, these blockages will be daily. So, a solution must be found as soon as possible, because from the announced Maljevac park, we once again got a slag heap that poisons us," Mitrović said.
