The Ministry of Public Administration (MJU) is dedicated to the process of decentralization and strengthening of the system of local self-government in Montenegro, said the relevant minister Maraš Dukaj.
Dukaj said this in a conversation with the director of the Congress of Local Self-Governments, Claudia Luciani, on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Network of Associations of Local Governments of Southeast Europe.
As announced by the Ministry of Justice, he presented to Luciana the work and priorities of the Ministry and emphasized that the analysis of the functioning of the local self-government system, the improvement of the Law on Local Self-Government and project activities for the improvement of digitization at the local level are important areas.
"We are committed to the process of decentralization and strengthening the system of local self-government in Montenegro," said Dukaj.
He said that they are working to improve the functioning and sustainability of local self-government units.
"In order to ensure the efficient provision of services to citizens, as well as to deepen cooperation and solve problems that burden the work of local self-governments", added Dukaj.
Luciani praised the efforts of the Ministry in strengthening the local self-government system in Montenegro and pointed out that the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, in its Report on the application of the European Charter on Local Self-Government in Montenegro, identified the same challenges in the area of the local self-government system.
"In this sense, recommendations were given, which can be guidelines for a new legal framework in the area of the local self-government system," the announcement says.
At the meeting, it was pointed out that there is room for more intensive cooperation and exchange of best practices in the area of organizing the system of local self-governments.
