Somewhat surprising news arrived yesterday from the Basketball Association of Montenegro - at the regular Assembly, which was not even announced to the media, an extraordinary election Assembly was scheduled.
Initially, information appeared on the KSCG website that the elections would be held on June 9, but it was later changed to the wording that the date will be determined later.
That news is surprising, because it is Nikola Pekovic halfway through the four-year term, given that he was elected by unanimous decision of the delegates on May 24, 2021.
The celebrated Montenegrin basketball player, as "Vijesti" has unofficially learned, has not decided to step down from his position, but has agreed to check whether he still has confidence after several turbulent months in Montenegrin basketball.
The problems began to surface in August last year, when some members of the Board of Directors complained that the prime minister appeared in the ceremonial box at the match with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dritan Abazovic and then director of the Revenue and Customs Administration, Milosevic works.
A month later, after a successful performance at the Eurobasket, where the "Reds" won three games and were eliminated in the round of XNUMX after a big fight with the home team Germany, the national team director left KSCG Filip Patkovic. A day later, the resignation of the member of the Management Board was submitted by a man who for decades, with Veselin Barović, glowing and burning with Montenegrin basketball - Danilo Mitrovic, as well as Zoran Piperović.
Certain colleagues from the governing body of the KSCG asked Peković to return Mitrović and Piperović, as people who "left an indelible mark on Montenegrin basketball", but that did not happen.
The former center of Partizan, Panathinaikos and Minnesota doesn't have the same support as before because of everything, but he is probably convinced that he has an over-half majority in the Assembly, as soon as he accepted the new elections.
If he receives confidence, he will be able to propose new members of the Board of Directors, which should also include some sponsors. And then, after that, he could start a reorganization at all levels of the Alliance and appoint people he trusts.
