The sporting director of Barcelona, Juan Carlos Navarro, said that the club wants to extend the contract with coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.
Last night, in the third match of the final series, Barcelona beat Real Madrid (93:82) and won the title in the Endesa League.
"Jasikevicius' contract has expired and we want to keep him. Now we have to make some changes in the team. I am sure that our next project will be good. He understands our club very well. As is known, we will have a smaller budget, but we will do our best to make the best possible team," said Navarro.
Jasikevicius arrived in Barcelona three years ago. He won the Endesa League and the King's Cup twice, while he is still without a cup in the Euroleague. This season, Barca lost to Real in the semi-finals of the Euroleague.
"We'll be back next season. I'll take care of that. I'm happy with how we finished this season, and we'll work hard next season," Navarro said.
Navarno also commented on the situation with Nikola Mirotic. In recent days, the media reported that Mirotic is leaving Barcelona, even though his contract expires in two years.
"We made the decision a long time ago and communicated it to Mirotic, but we were surprised that the information came out to the public before the final. It was the club's decision, we decided to part ways. But, as I said - Mirotic played well in the last three weeks and in I congratulate him for that," Navarro said.
