The President of the Government of Montenegro, Dritan Abazović, today held a ceremonial reception for the national basketball team after their participation in the World Championship, where they finished 11th.
"It doesn't matter how much money or resources one has, the most important thing is to have a big heart like Montenegro had in this tournament. Thank you to these guys. They made us proud," said Abazović.
NBA ace Nikola Vučević emphasized the special importance of support from the fans and thanked the coaching staff, the Association and his teammates for their efforts.
"I thank the prime minister and the minister for the invitation. Special thanks to all the boys who took the summer off to be in the national team instead of with their families and contribute to this result. I am proud," said Vucevic.
Minister of Sports Vasilije Lalošević also spoke.
"It is a great honor and pleasure for me to pay my respects to these great guys. Montenegro has long been on the map of sports superpowers. In past years, we also had world names in basketball who play in the strongest league in the world, but since a few days ago we have a great eleventh place in the world," Lalošević pointed out.
The President of the Association, Nikola Peković, said that he was proud of the result, of all the players and the coaching staff.
"We are a small country with people of great courage and heart, which in this case proved to be crucial in the achievement of this success. This is a historic result that you should be proud of, and I, as president of the Federation, certainly am."
National team selector Boško Radović thanked the Government of Montenegro for its support and said that the national basketball team is now at the very top of world basketball.
"I hope we made the sincere fans and all the people in Montenegro happy," said Radović.
