The crisis in Montenegrin basketball should finally end tomorrow (Friday) when the President of the Basketball Association of Montenegro will be elected at the Electoral Assembly.
Jelena Dubljević and Nikola Peković are candidates for that position, and the legendary basketball player received support from the majority of the representatives of Montenegro.
Montenegrin basketball players supported her with an open letter.
"As is known, on Friday, November 24, the elections for the president of the KSCG will be held, and the only basketball selection that gathered and had a performance during this total blockade of basketball in Montenegro is the women's senior national team. We believe that we have the right and obligation to be heard and our voice, because we know the situation well enough and believe that it is time for changes and that Jelena Dubljević is the right choice for that position," the Montenegrin basketball player writes in the statement.
They add that Dubljević has shown that she knows how to make the right decisions in the most difficult moments.
"Both when she was a player and when she was a leader on the field, but also when she needed to help her teammates and her country, Montenegro. The Montenegrin basketball team, together with Jelena, spread the name of Montenegro around the world and we believe that, with experience and "With her dedication to her work, as the president of the Basketball Association, she will contribute a lot to the new successes of Montenegrin men's and women's basketball. We believe that by electing the first female president of the Basketball Association, Montenegro will send a great message to our society and our sports friends abroad," the national team members say.
The statement was signed by Milica Jovanović, Nikolina Ilić, Bojana Kovačević, Marija Leković, Jelena Bulajić, Nataša Mek, Božica Mujović, Ksenija Šćepanović, Taja Rejmer, Dragana Živković, Zorana Radonjić, Lana Vukčević, Maja and Milena Bigović, Jovana Pašić, Jelena Vučetić, Sanja Akšam and Sofija Živaljević.
The letter of support was not signed by coach Jelena Škerović.
The current president of KSCG, Nikola Peković, was proposed by 24 clubs to continue managing Montenegrin basketball, while Jelena Dubljević was supported by 26 of them.
