The president of the Basketball Association of Montenegro, Nikola Peković, presented the basic guidelines of the program, which he will be guided by if he is re-elected as the first man of Montenegrin basketball tomorrow (Friday) at the Electoral Assembly.

In the press release delivered to the media, he emphasized, among other things, that he is most deeply motivated by a sincere desire to incorporate all his professional, personal and sporting dignity into the foundations of true and long-term development of Montenegrin basketball.

Pekovic was proposed by 24 clubs to continue managing Montenegrin basketball, while Jelena Dubljević, who was supported by 26 of them, will be his opponent in the elections for the president of KSCG.

We transmit his speech in its entirety...

"Dear sports friends,

Respected sports public of Montenegro,

Together we can testify: Montenegrin basketball is in deep crisis.

A crisis is also an opportunity. If we take it seriously and if we jointly invest every atom of energy to overcome it.

The tradition, talent, dedication and hard work of our players, coaches and basketball workers throughout Montenegro contributed to the fact that the crisis - still - is not reflected so much in competition results, as in the crisis of the functioning of the Basketball Association of Montenegro.

Deeply motivated by a sincere desire to incorporate all my professional, personal and sports dignity into the foundations of the true and long-term development of Montenegrin basketball - and thus our sport as a whole - I would like to present to you the basic guidelines of the program, which I will be guided by, if my team support me too at the Electoral Assembly of the KSCG on November 24, 2023.

It is well known that my engagement as the President of the KSCG is motivated solely by the desire to contribute and help our basketball, sports and Montenegro as a former top professional player with numerous acquaintances and contacts around the world.

My commitment, from the first day of assuming the position of President of the Association, I experienced as an exceptional honor and obligation, that we fundamentally change things for the better, and I am convinced that it is time for a new beginning in KSCG.

This is exactly why I give my word that, together with my team, I will do my best to make Montenegrin basketball beautiful in the coming period:

1. Transparency in every segment of work.

2. Implementation of the structural reform of KSCG and profiling of the Association as a real service for clubs, players, coaches, referees and representative selections, which was not the case until now.

3. Reorganization of the administrative apparatus, in terms of conscientious selection of persons who will be in charge of the development of men's, women's, youth, representative basketball, on the domestic and international level.

4. Improvement of financial operations, which I plan to establish on a sustainable and realistic basis with the provision of additional funds to the Association, a set of activities for financial and material support to improve the work of clubs at all levels, and the realization of new sponsorship contracts.

5. Balanced development of all basketball regions in Montenegro, awakening of dormant basketball centers and special emphasis on strengthening and qualitative advancement of competition in all domestic leagues, especially in IA MCKL and IA ŽCKL

6. KSCG as a real house of basketball, not as an "elitist" club where decisions are made non-transparently and superficially

7. Returning essential competences to the board of directors of the KSCG and other organizational bodies that, through specific coordination and implementation of projects and plans, will modernize the work of the KSCG and become a real service for our clubs.

8. Avoiding any revenge in relation to all basketball people who do not share our vision and our ideas for overcoming the problems that burden basketball in Montenegro, with an honest and open debate.

9. Creating a positive atmosphere in the work that will represent a new flywheel and breathe a new wind of change, and initiate new processes in the work of the KSCG, all in accordance with the Development Plan for the next mandate period.

10. Honorable, sporting and chivalrous attitude towards every basketball player in Montenegro, Europe and the world.

Welcome to the new basketball Montenegro," Peković said in a statement.
