The basketball conundrum in Montenegro should be solved today - the election assembly of the national association is scheduled for 12 o'clock, where the president and members of the Board of Directors will be elected.
The complicated situation in the Basketball Association of Montenegro has been going on practically since January, and from then until today, the Montenegrin basketball scene has completely divided - Nikola Pekovic, the current president, is the personification of one, and since the end of October - when she announced her candidacy for the post of president - Jelena Dubljević represents its second part. Two of our basketball legends will now compete outside the court, for the position of the first man of KSCG.
The chronology of the plot is long and complicated. In short - one group claims that the mandate of both the Board of Directors and President Peković expired in January, and the other that it expired only of the Board of Directors, which was also noted by the sports inspection. The KSCG Assembly, which was scheduled twice, did not take place - the first time in June, when the election of the president was also scheduled, between Peković and the then opponent Igor Lukšić, due to non-adoption of the agenda, and the second time due to lack of quorum. A third attempt could bring the denouement...
- There was no quorum at the assemblies, for the benefit of basketball I decided to put my position to the vote. Both small and big clubs are suffering, everyone... I hope that we will now resolve this unpleasant situation and that there will be a quorum now - said Peković.

Therefore, it is also possible that there will not be enough delegates to hold the session, which is what it is about Zoran Piperović, a member of the Board of Directors in a technical mandate - one of those who supports the dismissal of Nikola Peković - spoke on October 28.
And from June until today, all the divisions in the Montenegrin basketball establishment came to light - the members of the Board of Directors whose mandate, as Peković claims, had expired, expressed numerous complaints.
Veselin Barovic, who was succeeded by Peković as president, said recently that the financial situation in the alliance is catastrophic. Barović then made serious accusations against the current president.
- When Nikola Peković realized that he did not have a majority against Igor Lukšić, he undermined the majority through the clubs and that Assembly was not organized. We were the most respected association in Montenegro, and now we have come to the point where we are a disgrace. It doesn't occur to Peković to organize a meeting, so that the league can finally start. They are threatening people in Pljevlji and Nikšić, and they are talking about pressure from our side - pointed out Barović and added:
- He wants to remain president by force, and we have no league, no financing, no sponsors. The November salary cannot be received, KSCG is in the red by 300.000 euros.
Peković, as he said, is convinced that he will continue to lead Montenegrin basketball, with choice words for the opponent Jelena Dubljević.
- Jelena simply felt through this turbulent period that it was time to run for office and I wish her the best of luck. So that the better candidate wins - said Peković.
Peković has been the president of the KSCG since May 24, 2021, when he succeeded Veselin Barović, while the current Management Board was appointed two years earlier. Jelena Dubljević received support from the women's national team the day before the election assembly. Eighteen players, namely, signed an open letter in which they emphasize that they want changes at the head of KSCG.
They signed the statement Milica Jovanović, Nikolina Ilić, Bojana Kovačević, Marija Leković, Jelena Bulajić, Nataša Mek, Božica Mujović, Ksenija Šćepanović, Taja Rejmer, Dragana Živković, Zorana Radonjić, Lana Vukčević, Maja i Milena Bigović, Jovana Pašić, Jelena Vučetić, Sanja Akšam i Sofia Živaljević. However, there is no signature of the selector Jelena Škerović.
"We believe that Jelena is the right choice. She showed that she knows how to make the right decisions in the most difficult moments. Both when she was a player and when she was a leader on the field, but also when she needed to help her teammates and her country, Montenegro. Together with Jelena, the Montenegrin basketball team spread the name of Montenegro around the world and we believe that, with her experience and dedication in her work, as president of the Basketball Association, she will contribute a lot to the new successes of Montenegrin men's and women's basketball", said the members of the national team.
