After the return matches of the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the Conference League, it became definitively known that starting next season Italian football will have five representatives in the Champions League.
The elite European club competition will be expanded by an additional four places in the new format. Two of the new four places will be filled by clubs from the countries with the best coefficient, and after the matches played on Thursday it became known that Italy will definitely have the best coefficient.
Italian football was made possible by Atalanta, who eliminated Liverpool in the Europa League, as well as Fiorentina, who were better than the Czech Victoria from Pilsen in the quarterfinals of the Conference League.
Earlier, it was already known that Serie A in the Europa League will have another representative in the semi-finals, because Roma and Milan played each other.
Italy is currently the first on the coefficient list with 19.429 points, the second is Germany with 17.642, so it will very likely be the second country that will have five representatives in the LŠ. Italy and Germany currently have three more clubs each active in the finals of this season's competitions.
England is third on the list with 17.250 points, France fourth with 15.583, and Spain fifth with 15.312 points.
And the calculation doesn't stop there, Serie A and Bundesliga are in the fight to have six participants each in next season's Champions League.
For that, Italy needs Roma or Atalanta to win the Europa League, but also not to be among the top four clubs in Serie A. Roma is currently fifth, Atalanta seventh...
For Germany, the job is more difficult, because it is necessary for Borussia Dortmund to win the Champions League by the sixth participant, and not be among the four in the Bundesliga. The "Yellow and Black" are currently fifth with the same number of points as Leipzig.
