The English media reported today that two football players who play in the English Premier League were arrested in connection with the accusation of alleged rape.
Both footballers are 19 years old and play for the same club, which refused to comment on the allegations, the BBC reported.
"One 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding rape. Another 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both were released on bail after the hearing," the police spokesman confirmed news of the arrest.
This news was first reported by the British daily "The Sun", which stated that the alleged attack took place on Friday.
Neither the media nor the police mentioned the names of the players, nor for which club they play, and it is not known whether they have been suspended until the end of the police investigation.
