It could be sensed that he was having second thoughts, the president knew it too Joan Laporta and sports director Deco, so after one round of Europe and talks with several coaches (negotiations with Hansi Flik, Tiago Mot, and so on Mikel Arteta) decided that it was time to go all or nothing and start convincing Xavi to continue what he started two and a half years ago.
And they succeeded, Ćavi felt what every coach wants to have - the support of the club leader and teammates, so he will complete the contract until the end (summer 2025), and maybe extend it.
- Many people, including my players, made me realize that I have not finished my work here. I saw that it is not over - said Ćavi at yesterday's press conference.
He was champion with Barça last season, he also has a trophy in the Spanish Super Cup - looking at the trophies, one can debate whether Xavi has lived up to expectations so far, but Barcelona is a club that always looks at the bigger picture. And now she says that there are many young players in the team who have accepted important roles and that the team is developing in the right way. And the ultimate goal is, of course, for Barça to dominate, win and win titles.
- I believe we can be successful. I am convinced of that and these three months have made me look at things differently. And since changing one's mind is a sign of wisdom, I decided to change it. I know that we will end the season without a trophy, but we have the ability to be better - said Ćavi.
He was angered by the writing of certain media that he stayed because of money.
- If I left, the money that should belong to me would go to the account of the next coach - Ćavi was clear.
Laporta continued:
- It's true, Xavi first said that he was going and that he didn't want money. He always behaved with dignity, never greedy - said Laporta.
As a player Barça won 25 cups (of which four in the Champions League), as a coach he has only two, but can anyone say that Xavi is not the right man for this project?
