The Montenegrin women's handball team will play in group B with the selections of Romania, Serbia and the Czech Republic at the upcoming European Championship, it was decided at today's draw in Vienna.
"Lice" were drawn in the first hat, and before the ceremony it was known that they will play in group B, hosted by Debrecen.
The European Championship is held in Hungary, Austria and Switzerland from November 28 to December 15 this year. The first phase is played in Debrecen, Basel and Innsbruck. Along with Vienna, Debrecen also hosts the main stages, while the semi-finals, the match for third place and the final are played in the Austrian capital.
Group B, which includes Montenegro, meets groups A and C in the main stage. Group A includes Sweden, Hungary, North Macedonia and Turkey, and group C France, Spain, Poland and Portugal.
EHF Euro 2024 is the first continental championship where 24 teams will compete, instead of the previous 16. Four teams will be placed in six groups, and two from each group will advance to the main stage, where two groups with six national teams will be formed. . After that, the two first-placed national teams from both groups from the main stage will advance to the semi-finals.
Montenegro finished the qualification for the upcoming continental championship with all six victories - they defeated Serbia, Turkey and Bulgaria twice each.
The Lionesses won the bronze medal at the previous European Championship, which was held in Montenegro, North Macedonia and Slovenia in 2022.
The title is defended by Norway.
