Portuguese cyclist João Almeida is the winner of the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia race, which was run today from Sabio Chiesa to Monte Bondone.
Almeida covered the 203-kilometer hilly section in five hours, 53 minutes and 27 seconds.
In the sprint finish, Briton Geraint Thomas crossed the finish line in second place, while Slovenian Primož Roglič took third place, 25 seconds behind.
The leader in the general standings is Tomas with an 18-second advantage over the second-placed Almeida, and in third place is Roglič, 29 seconds behind.
Thomas will turn 37 on Thursday, three days before the end of the race, and if he maintains the lead he will become the oldest winner of the Giro in the history of the race.
The next, 17th stage with a length of 197 kilometers is scheduled for tomorrow, and will be driven from Perđina Valsugana to Kaorla.
