The US and Chinese national teams will win the most medals at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, according to Nielsen's forecast.
As announced by the company "Nielsen Graysnout Sports", which provides statistical analysis of sports leagues around the world and follows major competitions that include Olympic sports until the Games, the US Olympic team is expected to win a total of 123 medals, of which 39 are gold.
The forecast is that China will be second with 89 medals, of which 35 are gold.
Those two national teams won the first two places three years ago at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Graysnout's ranking is based on the number of total medals won, although others are ranked by gold medals won.
It would be the eighth consecutive time that the USA team won the most medals at the Summer Olympics. The last time this did not happen was in 2008 in Beijing, when home country China won the most medals.
According to the forecast, the third highest number of medals will be Great Britain (66-13 gold), followed by France (55-28), Australia (50-13), Japan (49-13), Italy (47-12), the Netherlands (38 -18), Germany (36-9) and South Korea (24-9).
An unknown factor is the participation of Russia and Belarus, since their athletes have been absent from most international competitions for the past two years due to the war in Ukraine. Their impact is difficult to take into account in the forecast, stated Gracenout.
Russian and Belarusian athletes will participate in the Games in Paris in individual sports, as neutrals, without national symbols and anthems.
In addition, due to sanctions and political decisions, numerous international sports associations have made it impossible for athletes from Russia and Belarus to apply for visas at sports arenas.
