The former number one in alpine skiing, the Austrian Marcel Hirscher, who retired in 2019, wants to return to the competition, but this time under the flag of the Netherlands, the Austrian Ski Federation (OSB) reported today.
"We learned that Hirscher is considering a return to international competitions. Of course, we deeply regret his decision to request a change of citizenship in order to play for the Netherlands, but in the end we supported his decision out of respect for him and in the spirit of sportsmanship," said the general secretary. OSB Christian Scherer.
OSB today formally unanimously approved the request of Hiršer, who is 35 years old and whose mother is Dutch.
Hirscher won 67 victories in the overall classification of the World Cup in the period from 2012 to 2019, and he also won gold medals in slalom and alpine combined at the 2018 Olympic Games, five world championship titles and six small globes in slalom and also so much in giant slalom.
