German authorities announced today that a large swastika and the word "vergasen" (to the gas chamber) were inscribed on the Berlin monument to Roma killed by the Nazis.
The foundation, which oversees the memorial and other Holocaust memorials, said the desecration was discovered at the entrance on October 16 and has been removed.
The announcement states that security has been increased at the monument located in the Tirgarten park near the entrance to the German parliament.
The monument to the Roma victims of Nazism was unveiled three years ago.
It is estimated that the Nazis killed between 220.000 and 500.000 Roma.
