One of the leaders of the far-right AfD party, Alexander Gauland, said that Germans must take responsibility for the 12 years of Adolf Hitler's rule, reports Tanjug.
However, as he said, it is only a small part of German history.
"We have a glorious history and it, dear friends, has lasted longer than those damned 12 years. Hitler and the Nazis are just a piece of bird droppings in more than 1.000 years of successful German history," Gauland told a rally of the AfD youth movement.
Annegret Kramp-Karenabuer, general secretary of the Christian Democratic Union of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, reacted to that, who wrote on Twitter that for Gauland and his party, "50 million victims of war, holocaust and general war are just bird droppings".
According to her, Gauland's comments reveal the true nature of his party.
