The Russian Defense Ministry announced in two separate statements that its aircraft destroyed two Ukrainian speedboats east of Snake Island, in the Black Sea, reports Reuters.
Reuters was unable to verify the reports, which followed a similar incident on August 22 when Russia said it destroyed a US-made military speedboat carrying Ukrainian military personnel in the same area.
Snake Island is a small Ukrainian outpost in the northwestern Black Sea, where tensions have escalated since Russia last month pulled out of an agreement that allowed Ukraine to ship grain from its southern ports despite the war.
The spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said that the agreement on Black Sea grain will be one of the items on the agenda of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's talks with his Turkish counterpart on Thursday and Friday, reports Reuters.
In July, Russia pulled out of a deal brokered by Turkey that allowed Ukraine to export grain from its Black Sea ports.
Russia said it foiled one of Ukraine's largest drone strikes to date in western Russia on Wednesday, downing drones in at least six regions and thwarting a Ukrainian naval attack on the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Russian military planes were damaged and civilian aviation disrupted in the drone attacks, Russian officials said, citing the Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Oryol, Ryazan and Moscow regions as targets, Reuters reports.
Ukraine usually does not comment on who is behind the attacks on Russian territory, although officials have publicly expressed satisfaction over them.
Footage posted by the governor of Pskov on Telegram shows smoke rising from a large fire while the sounds of sirens and explosions are heard. Other reports on Telegram channels showed anti-aircraft systems in action around the city, which is just 32 km (20 miles) east of the Estonian border.
Tass news agency, citing emergency services, said that four Il-76 transport planes were damaged at the military airport. Two planes "caught fire", it added.
Civilian flights were canceled at the local airport. The airspace around Moscow's Vnukovo airport was briefly closed, TASS reported.
Ukraine's air defenses shot down all 28 Russian missiles and 15 of 16 drones launched overnight, General Valery Zaluzhnyi, commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces, said on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
At least two people were killed and two others wounded in a "massive" Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday, officials said, and debris from targets destroyed by air defenses fell on several buildings.
The bodies of two people were found in a non-residential building, and one person was wounded by pieces of glass, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging service, adding that debris fell in four places in the capital, reports Reuters.
"Kiev has not experienced such a powerful attack since spring. The enemy carried out a massive, combined attack using drones and rockets," Sergej Popko, head of the city's military administration, said on Telegram.
He said that at the beginning several groups of drones headed towards Kyiv from different directions. Russia then launched missiles from Tu-95 strategic aircraft.
"All in all, air defenses destroyed more than 20 enemy targets," said Popko.
Authorities in Kyiv said several buildings were damaged by debris, while officials in the Kyiv region reported 6 private homes were damaged by projectile fragments and several people were injured.
Russia has closed its Pskov airport in western Russia to civilian flights, the Russian Air Transport Agency said, TASS reported, Reuters reports.
Explosions were heard in Kiev in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko wrote on Telegram, urging residents of the city to stay in shelters, Reuters reports.
The Russian military announced on Telegram early Wednesday that one of its planes destroyed four fast Ukrainian ships with up to 50 paratroopers in an operation in the Black Sea, Reuters reports.
The Russian military, reporting on Telegram, said early Wednesday that it shot down three Ukrainian drones over the southern Bryansk region and one over the central Orlov region, Reuters reports.
