Ukrainian air defense systems destroyed 14 of the 17 drones that Russia launched during the night and one Kh-59 cruise missile, the Ukrainian Air Force announced today, Reuters reports.
The air force said on the Telegram messaging app that Russia also launched missiles from S-300 long-range surface-to-air missile systems, but did not say how many or whether they hit any targets.
Oleh Sinehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, said late Sunday that Russia had attacked his region with missiles fired from the S-300 system in Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine.
He said that according to preliminary information, no one was injured, but that the facades of some non-residential buildings were damaged.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Serhiy Lisak said late Sunday that Russia had attacked the city of Pavlograd with drones.
There were no casualties, but some parts of the city were left without electricity.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the reports.
Both Russia and Ukraine have stepped up their airstrikes far from the front lines in recent months, targeting each other's critical energy, military and transportation infrastructure.
