Remnants of a rocket fell today in the central district of Kyiv and a residential building was damaged, the city authorities announced after a series of explosions in the Ukrainian capital, Reuters reported.
The agency's reporters previously reported that a series of explosions echoed throughout Kyiv while an air raid siren sounded.
"Explosions in the capital. Urgent shelter," Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko wrote on the Telegram application.
Ukraine's foreign minister called on international allies to supply more air defenses to his country after a Russian missile attack on Kiev, Reuters reported.
"There are no atrocities that the Russian bastards would not commit, including an attempted ballistic strike in the heart of a multimillion-dollar city," said Dmytro Kuleba on the social network X.
"This is a reminder that Ukraine urgently needs more air defense, especially the Patriot system and missiles capable of repelling any Russian attack," he said.
Reuters also reports that Ukraine's largest energy supplier DTEK announced that emergency power cuts were introduced in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa today after a Russian airstrike damaged one of the high-voltage facilities there.
"The situation is still difficult. In order to reduce the load on the network, electricity transmission will not work in the city today, and industrial consumption is also limited," said DTEK in the Telegram messaging application.
The administration of Odessa announced in Telegram that the city and the region were attacked in several waves by drones launched by Russia. Four air weapons were shot down over Odesa and the neighboring Mykolaiv region.
Debris from the falling drone caused a fire in the power facility, which was immediately extinguished, the administration added.
The Ukrainian military said that air defenses destroyed eight of the nine drones launched by Russia overnight. Most drones were destroyed in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. DTEK announced that electricity was restored by Monday morning in two city districts.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced today that Russian forces destroyed 11 Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region in the southwest of the country.
The governor of Russia's Rostov region, Vasiliy Golubev, said that two blocks of the Novocherkask power plant in that region were shut down after a fire early this morning.
"The fire at the factory was immediately extinguished and there were no casualties," Governor Golubev said on the Telegram messaging app.
Reuters reports, referring to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, that today Ukraine maintains a high level of electricity imports and does not plan to export after Russian attacks on the energy sector.
Russia attacked Ukrainian production and transmission facilities last Sunday and over the weekend, causing significant power outages in many regions.
