The Russian Air Force carried out a massive strike on energy infrastructure and gas industry facilities in Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Reuters reported.

The ministry said that "long-range, high-precision weapons" and drones were used.

"As a result of this attack, the work of the defense industry companies involved in the production and repair of weapons, equipment and ammunition was disrupted. All the goals of the attack were achieved. The facilities were hit," the ministry announced.

The Ukrainian Air Force earlier announced that Russia had launched 16 missiles and 11 drones at Ukraine in an overnight airstrike, Reuters reported.

In the Telegram application, the air force said it managed to shoot down nine drones and nine missiles.

They did not say what their targets were.

Rogers says Russia has significantly stepped up its campaign of airstrikes against Ukrainian energy facilities for more than a week, causing significant damage and leaving Ukrainians fearing a return to the blackouts seen in the first winter of the Great War.

Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK said on Saturday that five of its six power plants were damaged or destroyed with 80 percent of their production capacity lost and that repairs could take up to 18 months.
