Several hundred women today "wrapped" the Swedish parliament with a long hand-knitted red scarf as a sign of protest against the inaction of politicians in solving the issue of global warming.
Women who answered the call of the Mothers Rebellion movement walked around the parliament in Stockholm, wearing about 3.000 red scarves 1,5 meters long. They ask politicians to respect the obligation to limit global warming to 1,5 degrees Celsius.
Those gathered also carried signs, among which "Let's protect the climate for the future of children."
The government led by conservative Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson and backed by the far-right Sweden Democrats risks failing to meet its 2030 climate goals, the climate policy assessment agency recently said.
According to the Swedish Climate Policy Council, the government has made decisions, including tax decisions, that will increase greenhouse gas emissions in the short term.
