The Ukrainian defense announced today that it attacked a rescue ship of the Russian military fleet in the Black Sea on the annexed peninsula of Crimea and added that the ship is now out of order.
"Another bad day for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Ukrainian Navy today hit the Russian rescue ship 'Community' in the temporarily occupied Crimea," the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on the social network X.
It is added that the "nature of the damage" is being checked.
A "commune" is a ship for salvage on the high seas, such as sunken submarines or lost cargo. It is one of the oldest Russian military ships still in operation.
Launched in 1915 and seen in both world wars, the ship is the oldest military ship still in service in the world, according to several military websites.
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk said he did not know the exact nature of the damage caused by the attack, but that the ship was "no longer capable of performing its tasks."
"This will continue until the Russians run out of ships or leave Crimea," he added.
The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said earlier today that the Russian military "repelled an anti-ship missile attack" on a ship in the major port city.
He did not specify the name of the attacked ship, but said that a small fire was caused, which was quickly extinguished.
