A Syrian woman accused of a terrorist attack in Istanbul in 2022 was sentenced to seven life sentences and 1.794 years in prison.

Before the Criminal Court in Istanbul, the verdict was read in the case against 36 defendants for the terrorist attack in which six people died and 99 were injured, as a result of the explosion of a bomb left on Istiklal Street, Anadolia reports.

The final hearing was attended by five defendants, including Syrian Ahlam Albašir, and their lawyers.

Before the sentencing, Albašir told the judge that she would not defend herself.

"I accept any punishment you give me for this explosion and the death of people," she said.

The court panel sentenced Albašir to seven life sentences for the crimes of "violating the unity and territorial integrity of the state" and "intentionally killing a child with a premeditated bomb attack."

She was also sentenced to a total of 1.794 years in prison and a court fine of 22.000 lira for 99 counts of "attempted intentional murder" and "possession of dangerous substances without permission."
